The 6-Day Marangu Route is the oldest and most well-known route on Mount Kilimanjaro. It is the only route that offers sleeping huts in a dormitory-style setting. Through Marangu, mattresses, and pillows are available to guests, but you should come with your sleeping bag. So, climbers can stay in permanent huts instead of sleeping in tents.

These dormitory-style shelters provide extra protection from the strong wind and storm rain. Something that makes this route a popular one for climbers, especially during the rainy season.  Unquestionably, this experience is for April and May. Many climbers favor 6 day Marangu route because of its easiest trail on the mountain. Given its gradual slope and direct path.

A 6-day Marangu route approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the southeast side. Marangu is, unfortunately, less scenic than the other routes on Kilimanjaro. But also the ascent and descent are on the same trail.

Marangu which is situated on the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro is one of the villages inhabited by the Chaga tribe. Chaga also spelled Chagga, are Bantu-speaking people living on the fertile southern slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro in northern Tanzania. Once you book this 6-day Marangu route, you will have an opportunity to see the Chaga people. Chaga land and cultivation method support a very dense population. They practice intensive irrigated agriculture on terraced fields. Keeping the fields under permanent cultivation through the use of manure as fertilizer.

The Chaga people from Marangu their staple crop is banana, millet, potatoes, maize, and beans. Since the 1920s coffee has become the major cash crop. For hundreds of years, Kilimanjaro Marangu village has been home to the Chagga people. They can trace their heritage back to an autonomous kingdom called “Umangi”.

Approaching Kilimanjaro from the southeast, this 6-day Marangu route, you will use the same ascent and descent. This made the Marangu route to have less scenic compared to other routes. In this magical 6-day Marangu itinerary, you will pass through the thick forest on the first day. Thereafter followed by walking across the heather and moorland. Also the desert, and finally through some of Kilimanjaro’s most spectacular scenery, the glacier.

Some climbers believe that reaching Uhuru peak is very easy through the Marangu route. Believing since it is the only route that can be climbed in five days. However, at Wyatt Dynasty we strongly recommend climbing the route over six days. Doing so will increase your chances of reaching the summit successfully. A 6 day Marangu route climbing is good for those climbers who have not trekked much at high altitudes. So an effective extra day’s acclimatization could give them a better success rate.

Experienced and already acclimatized climbers may opt for the more challenging 5-day ascent along the Marangu route. The Marangu route from the main gate to Uhuru peak back and forth is approximately 72 kilometers or 45 miles. Ascent Distance is 37 km and Descent Distance is 37 km. Total 74 km. After Kilimanjaro climb you can extend your tour by adding Serengeti Safari tour to see the big game animals in Africa.
